Replacement and Upgrade System Frequently Asked Questions

- Who do I contact at Lutron to get this process started?

Click here to contact a Lutron Services Company’s Replacement Systems Specialist to discuss your lighting control needs.  From there we will develop options for you to choose from and lay out a plan to meet your budget and time schedules.

- Will replacing my system save energy in my building?

All Lutron lighting control systems, when configured properly, can help with energy savings.  Click here to email our Replacement Systems Specialists to discuss your energy savings goals and which systems are right for your application.

- Can I get any new features without changing hardware?

Depending on the system type, it may be possible to add new features or functionality to the existing system.

- I have several systems at my facility.  Can I combine them to be able to control from a central location?

Depending on system type, it may be possible to integrate multiple systems into one central system.  Click here to be contacted by a Lutron Replacement Systems Specialist to discuss what solutions are available.

- How long will this process take?  Can you meet my deadline?

Timeframes are based upon several factors including: the current state of the job and the replacement/upgrade option chosen.  Our Replacement Systems Specialists will work with you to offer solutions to fit within your fiscal and time schedules.

- I want to keep my building operating during the replacement process, is that possible?

Each system and owner circumstances are different.  We often schedule installations to take place during nights and weekends. We will work with you to eliminate or minimize the impact of installation during your working hours or key performances.

- I have a limited budget.  Can I still upgrade/replace my system?

Given Lutron’s vast product offerings, we will work with you to provide options for upgrading or replacing your system within your budget constraints. Many Lutron systems can be upgraded or replaced in phases, dividing costs over a longer period of time.

- Can I change my system without changing the wiring?

If the existing system utilizes digital wiring, it may be possible to retain the wiring.  However, if the existing wiring is analog, it may need to be changed to digital cable. We will work with you to determine your wiring needs and how they can be met.

- Where can I find my Lutron job/project number?

Currently, you can find this number, commonly referred to as the “Lutron Project Number,” on the front of any dimming panel (labeled as “J/N #”), on the As-Built drawings, or on system submittals. It will be 5, 6 or more digits long. If your system was manufactured prior to 1992, the panel label will have a “Pre-System #” or “Serial #” and will be formatted as 012-#### or 014-####.

- I do not have a Lutron system.  Can I replace another manufacturer’s system with one of yours?

In most cases Lutron can offer a system that can directly replace another manufacturer's system. We can determine what options you have to replace other manufacturer’s systems.  We can review your existing system plans, if available, or our Field Service Engineers can review your existing system in person.

- Would new wall controls fit in the existing backboxes?

The backbox size of the wall controls for our legacy systems varies from U.S. standard gang size. Installation can be completed by removing and replacing backboxes or more simply by using a Lutron supplied adaptor plate.
