About Us
Lutron is the world leader in the design and manufacturing of lighting controls. What does that mean? Lutron is the driver of new technologies and the primary force behind the expansion of our market.

Lutron is a technology-centered and people-driven company. A private corporation guided by our founder’s simple but profound Five Principles, Lutron has a history of steady but significant growth and smart investments. We have maintained double-digit growth every year for the last 46 years, and we have consistently reinvested 10% of our annual revenue back into research and development.

A relatively young organization by industry standards, we began in 1961 in a small building in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. Our founder, Joel Spira, began using a new technology, originally developed in the aerospace industry, to control the

lighting in commercial and industrial enterprises. Over the years, our business has continued to grow dramatically, both domestically and internationally. We began with only two products and now provide more than 10,000 products to our global customers.

So, you're wondering about the future? That may be the most exciting thing about working at Lutron. One of the primary drivers behind our past and future growth is market expansion. Our market is nowhere near saturated, so just increasing awareness of the existence of lighting control helps to fuel our growth. Our current estimate, for example, finds that the average US home has only 1.2 dimmers for about 30 switches. That number is even lower internationally. That empty "uncontrolled" space highlights Lutron's amazing growth potential.
