Lutron & CREE Introduce the World's Most Energy-Efficient Lighting Control and Delivery System
May 2012
Integrate state-of-the-art LED Products & Controls for Maximum Energy Efficiency
The growing demand for LED combined with increasingly stringent energy and building codes require an advanced level of lighting and control integration. Lutron Electronics announces a first-of-its-kind agreement with Cree, Inc. to embed Lutron EcoSystem technology on a chip in Cree luminaires to increase energy efficiency for building designers, contractors and owners.
Each luminaire with embedded Lutron EcoSystem technology is designed with an intelligent, pre-tested microprocessor directly integrated into the Cree LED driver. This design eliminates the need for additional interfaces, enabling the fixture and controls to communicate directly with each other for instant and seamless interoperability.
“Working with Cree, we’re able to expand our system networks by combining their innovation and leadership in the LED arena with our 50-year history as a leader in light control and total building solutions,” said Eric Lind, vice president of global specifications at Lutron. “This solution eliminates concerns about system compatibility, brings digital intelligence to the control of LEDs, and showcases Lutron’s open networks. Lutron EcoSystem controls have the ability to directly connect to Lutron’s complete line of wired and wireless systems as well as other building protocols, such as BACnet, to allow seamless control and energy saving capability for our customers.” Typical energy-saving strategies includes :
· High-end trim
· Personal control
· Occupancy & vacancy sensing
· Light level scheduling
· Daylight harvesting
· Demand response
The Lutron EcoSystem Enabled Cree LED luminaires yields the most efficient commercial lighting system in the industry due to Cree's best in class 110 lumens per watt and Lutron's proven energy control strategies that can deliver an additional 60%+ energy savings. The solution is ideal for energy retrofits as well as specified project business and allows building owners to meet many new and existing building energy codes.. “With this alliance, we set out to fix a problem. It breaks new ground for LED fixtures and control systems—turning compatibility into a feature, not a challenge,” said Gary Trott, vice president of market development, Cree lighting. “An integrated system can increase performance across the board – efficiency, lifetime and payback – it just works.”
Digital control and dimming of LED lighting solutions brings intelligence to LED control, enables extended life of the LED solution, and allows flexibility in the design and control of any space. It can significantly reduce building owners operating costs. According to Cree analysis, Cree CR Troffers equipped with Lutron EcoSystem technology can increase luminaire lifetime up to 50 percent and substantially increase lumen maintenance factors. The first products to feature embedded Lutron EcoSystem technology are the Cree CR Series of LED troffers with other products to follow.
