Compact fluorescent light

Screw-in compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are energy-saving lamps ideally suited to replace incandescent or halogen lamps. More and more customers choose to use CFL. Research by the American Electrical Manufacturers Association shows that CFL's market share has grown to 26.7%.

Due to the high energy consumption of incandescent lamps, given the new efficiency requirements, certain wattage incandescent lamps will be out of the market starting in 2012 (see the figure below).

So in the next 10 years, CFL and LED will occupy this market with excellent energy efficiency. However, these bulbs do not perform well with standard dimmers. Lutron now offers dimmers specifically designed for dimmable CFLs. These dimmers can also be used with LED bulbs.
